Real Betis vs Chelsea Preview
A 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground secured Chelsea Champions League football for next year, finishing 4th in a topsy-turvy debut season for Enzo Maresca.
The 45-year-old is now chasing a milestone: another European trophy for Chelsea and the chance to become the first club to win the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
Maresca’s side won all six games in the group stage phase, before 3-1,4-2 and 5-1 aggregate wins against København, Legia Warsaw and Djurgården respectively. Minimal rotation is expected as Chelsea look to end a solid season with a trophy.
Real Betis have also enjoyed a respectable campaign, finishing 6th in La Liga, guarantying Europa League football next season, no matter the result on Wednesday night.
Los Verdiblancos are three-time Copa Del Rey and one time La Liga champions but are yet to experience triumph in Europe, so veteran manager Manuel Pellegrini has the chance to go down in club history if he pulls off a cup victory on Wednesday night.
Real Betis vs Chelsea Tips
Reece James is slowly making his way back to full fitness after yet another injury ridden season. The club captain started in the wins against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest and is expected to retain his place at right back in Wroclaw.
The 24-year-old has started in an array of positions this season, with his versatility crucial to Maresca. If James starts at right back as predicted, he will be tasked with dealing with Jesus Rodriguez.
The talented teen has forced himself into the starting line up with a string of exciting performances and is tipped to start ahead of Abdessamad Ezzalzouli at left wing. When the 19-year-old has started, 80.95% of his full back opponents have hit at least two tackles, with the average over these games standing at 3.66.
While James is only averaging 1.40 tackles per 90 this campaign, his numbers increase to 2.96 p90 in the Conference League. With ‘sub on play on’ featured, James has hit at least two tackles in 4/5 of the games where he has played 45+ minutes.
Despite looking bright and promising at Ajax, Antony struggled for form at Manchester United, eventually being loaned out to Real Betis.
The Brazilian has excelled in Seville and has established himself as a firm fan favourite, registering 14 goal contributions in 25 appearances.
Antony is averaging 1.28 shots on target per 90 since joining Betis, with this increasing to 1.59 per 90 in the Conference League - a competition he has scored in half of his appearances.
