Charlton vs Wycombe Tips
Nathan Jones may have endured a nightmare stint at Southampton, but he could well join his former employers in the Championship next season. His Charlton side are just two games away from promotion; they must first see off Wycombe in the semi-final second leg, then if successful, they will need to overcome either Stockport or Leyton Orient in the final.
Charlton have been in flying form, racking up 16 wins, four draws, and just three losses from their last 23 matches en route to powering their way to a 4th-place finish; jumping above Wycombe on the final day.
After Sunday's goalless draw away at the Chairboys, Charlton will be confident of finishing the job at The Valley, where they’ve put together a 15-match unbeaten run (12 wins, 3 draws). That undefeated streak includes 10 wins from their last 11 home games - a formidable record.
The Addicks, who are now the bookmakers' 7/4 favourites to win promotion, also beat Wycombe 2-1 at home in December, and they look a solid bet at 23/20 with bet365 to win inside 90 minutes on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Wycombe have hit a poor run of form at the worst possible time, going four games without a win, including three defeats; one of which was a 4-0 home drubbing by Charlton in the league.
Matt Godden has been one of League One’s standout performers this season, netting 18 goals in 41 appearances for Charlton - a tally bettered by only two players in the division.
He’s hit a rich vein of form late in the campaign, scoring eight times in his last 11 outings, including one in the 4-0 win over Wycombe last month. He’s been particularly lethal at The Valley, notching 12 home goals, with six coming in his last five games on home turf.
With the tie finely poised, something has to give in the second leg, and Godden looks good value at 5/1 to break the deadlock.
Charlton vs Wycombe Team News & Lineups
Charlton will still be without Miles Leaburn, but Chuks Aneke returns from suspension. Gassan Ahadme will be assessed.
Wycombe will be unable to call on the likes of Sam Vokes, Shamal George, Josh Scowen, Beryly Lubala, and Daniel Harvie.
