Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t had it this good for such a long time. The Midlands side are not only back in the Premier League but well clear of the drop zone and they’ve been ruffling the feathers of the big teams since August when drawing 1-1 with Manchester City.
They’ve taken points of every team in the top six bar Liverpool although Monday night’s game represents an opportunity to knock the Merseyside team out of the FA Cup and they can be taken at a big price to oblige with a victory.
Wanderers are one of the few teams in the top flight who are unlikely to challenge for the European places yet don’t have the worry of a relegation scrap and perhaps Nuno Espirito Santo will accordingly focus on trying to win this cup competition.
Liverpool will arrive at Molineux not wanting a replay and might therefore play in an expansive fashion which has previously suited Wolves for matches like this, with Jurgen Klopp ready to make wholesale changes.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all likely to make way, with Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Fabinho among the players likely to be involved and Wolves will be sniffing blood.
This match is good timing for them considering they will be well rested after losing at home to Palace on Wednesday, with Liverpool having played a day later and this is a competition too far for a side challenging for the Premier League title and looking ahead to the clash against Bayern Munich next month.
