Is this the season where Liverpool finally end their title drought and claim a first-ever Premier League crown?
Such a concept wasn’t invented in 1990 when the Reds landed the Championship title, with supporters unaware that their team would then fail to be top dogs in England for the best part of three decades.
However, Jurgen Klopp has only been manager for a handful of years and the German looks increasingly likely to steer this team to domestic glory, with big money being spent this summer on converting a dream into reality.
Mohamed Salah has signed a shiny new contract and he’s been joined at the Merseyside club by Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker. The latter is being regarded as the missing piece in the jigsaw after an admission that neither Simon Mignolet nor Lorus Karius are the real deal.
Klopp has identified a fast start for a team who aren’t suffering too greatly from players returning late from World Cup duty, with Liverpool likely to be fast out of the traps against a West Ham side who have yet another new manager at the helm.
The London side hired Manuel Pellegrini this summer, with the Chilean having previously won the Premier League title with Manchester City and the Hammers have been busy in the transfer market.
Jack Wilshere is the notable name to arrive at the London Stadium, although Lukasz Fabianski, Andriy Yarmolenko and Ryan Fredericks have also caught the eye, while Marko Arnautovic will look to continue scoring goals after a strong season.
All things considered, we think this is a match that Liverpool will win, although perhaps they might have some teething problems in defence and West Ham can find the net during the ninety minutes.
