Jurgen Klopp made some surprising decisions with his team selection for Wednesday’s clash at the Parc des Princes, with Dejan Lovren preferred over Joe Gomez in the centre-half position, with the latter operating as right-back.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will have been scratching his head as to why he didn’t continue his excellent season against PSG, while Klopp also played with three central midfielders who didn’t press as hard as they were expected to do.
TAA is sure to come back into the team for Sunday’s derby and the home side are massive favourites to overcome their city rivals, although we’re not sure that Liverpool should really be trading at 2/5 to win this clash.
The Reds are one of the strongest teams in England, although they are up against a side who are improving under Marco Silva and the Toffees don’t get beaten very often.
Silva arrived at Goodison Park with a reputation for playing attacking and possibly maverick football, although he’s focused on making sure this team are hard to beat and Yerry Mina has now taken his place in the heart of defence.
Mina is not only a rock at the back but also offers a threat from set pieces and did score three times during the World Cup for Colombia including that last-gasp equaliser against England.
Everton also carry an attacking threat which includes the excellent playmaking ability of Gylfi Sigurdsson, with Richarlison likely to be a thorn in the side of Virgil van Dijk who will want to steal a yard on the Brazilian at every turn.
We’re going to back Everton on the Asian Handicap and also fancy a low-scoring encounter in this clash.
