Everton supporters hope that their team are starting an era which will see the Toffees compete at the top end of the Premier League for several seasons to come, with plenty of money being pumped into the squad last summer.
New faces such as Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Richarlison have now become a regular fixture in the Merseyside team, with Andre Gomes probably the outstanding player in the squad and good times are ahead.
Naturally, success doesn’t arrive overnight and it’s been a fairly modest return of 23 points from 15 games played, although it’s still been enough to steer Everton into seventh place and a top-six finish is a realistic aim this term.
Home form has been relatively stout even if the Toffees failed to put Newcastle away last week, with Marco Silva cutting a frustrated figure and it’s a lack of goals that has been the team’s Achilles heel in the past couple of games.
They were good value for at least a point at Anfield after missing a host of chances, with Silva looking to now recruit a striker in January that is going to turn those near-misses into victories.
However, Richarlison is certainly impressing the Everton faithful and there are reasons for thinking the forward can haunt his former teammates, with the Brazilian having starred for just one season at Vicarage Road.
With a strong home defence likely to thwart a misfiring Hornets side, we’re happy to back the home win and also look at the bigger price about Everton winning without conceding a goal.
