You have to go back to 13th October 2018 to find the last time that League One leaders Luton Town lost a league game, however go back another four years and they had only just managed to haul themselves out of the Conference and back into the Football League.
Nathan Jones was the man to thank for much of Luton’s success in recent years, however now that he has upped sticks and moved north to Stoke City it has been left to Mick Harford to continue the good work. Thus far there has been no slowdown under the new boss, indeed if anything the Hatters have gone from strength-to-strength in recent weeks with convincing wins over Peterborough United (4-0), Portsmouth (3-2) and Shrewsbury (0-3). Can they continue their unbeaten run when they face Wycombe Wanderers this week? Indeed they can and we envisage them taking another massive step towards a League One title which most pundits believed would be heading to Sunderland this season. The bookmakers clearly feel the same way with most firms going 4/6 that they finish the campaign in pole position
Barnsley occupy second position in the League One, the Tykes also enjoying an excellent season and looking well placed for a jump up to the Championship. The South Yorkshire outfit trail Luton by six points but enjoy a game-in-hand and they find themselves billed as second favourites for promotion at 7/2 with BetVictor Bookmakers.
Prior to the start of the campaign, newly-relegated Sunderland were most pundits’ favourite choice for promotion straight back up to the Championship, however while they have been generally impressive for much of the campaign, they have dropped points on a few occasions. The Black Cats trail Luton Town by a full nine points but they do have three games-in-hand over the Hatters and are chalked-in as 4/1 third-favourites to haul themselves back into the second-tier, ahead of previous league leaders Portsmouth at 8/1 and early frontrunners Peterborough United who are now way out at 500/1.
